The peak of global oil production will have profound consequences for a global economy that is deeply dependent upon petroleum products for energy, transportation, food production and many consumer products. We should implement a "powerdown" strategy for reducing the impact of human overconsumption and production on the environment and promote transition to sustainable, non-polluting energy technologies. Move toward steady-state economic principles.

Support international agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Stop subsidizing fossil fuels and nuclear energy. No oil from tar sands or shale oil development. Support conservation and energy efficiency. Convert to solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal power. Decentralize energy production.
